Welcome Center

As a result of a project implemented by the Student Affairs Office of the Medical University of Silesia, Katowice, Poland between September 2024 and August 2026, a Foreign Students and Staff Support Point — Welcome Center — was established at the University.

The Welcome to Poland programme is financed by the European Union under the European Funds for Social Development 2021–2027 (FERS) programme within the project entitled “Support for Higher Education and Science Institutions in the Service of Foreign Nationals and Polish Citizens Going Abroad”, No. FERS.01.05.IP.08-0003/24, and implemented by the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange.

Main tasks and objectives

  • ongoing support for foreigners at the University, including students (also those participating in the Erasmus+ programme), regarding residence-related matters, including assistance in extending residence permits in Poland, insurance matters, healthcare, and support in unexpected or non-standard situations;
  • directing individuals to the appropriate University units;
  • preparation of a guide for foreigners at the University and promotional materials concerning the Welcome Center;
  • organisation of integration events for foreigners, including Welcome Week, New Year meetings, and excursions to places such as the Silesian Museum, Nikiszowiec, and the Guido Mine and Coal Mining Museum;
  • close cooperation with faculty dean’s offices and other University units supporting foreigners.

The Welcome Center is located on the ground floor of the Faculty of Health Sciences building at 12 Medyków Street in Katowice.
