Doctoral School of Medical University of Silesia, Katowice, Poland

The Doctoral School of the Medical University of Silesia, Katowice, Poland was established pursuant to Ordinance No. 107/2019 of 19 June 2019 issued by the Rector of the Medical University of Silesia, Katowice, Poland. The Regulations of the Doctoral School were adopted by the Senate of the Medical University of Silesia, Katowice, Poland under Resolution No. 45/2019 of 26 June 2019. On 24 February 2021, the Senate of the University adopted Resolution No. 18/2021 amending the Regulations of the Doctoral School, effective from the 2021/2022 academic year.

The Doctoral School educates doctoral students in the field of medical and health sciences within the following disciplines:

  1. Medical sciences,
  2. Pharmaceutical sciences,
  3. Health sciences.

Development projects and funding

  • In the years 2024–2026, the Doctoral School is implementing the project “Supporting the Transformation of the Region through Strengthening the Potential of the Doctoral School of the Medical University of Silesia”, financed under the European Funds for Silesia 2021–2027 programme (total value: PLN 2,917,205). As part of the project, 35 doctoral students received funding for scientific research, publications, translations, conference participation, and international mobility. The project also includes the development of administrative competences and additional equipment for the Doctoral School.
  • The Doctoral School has experience in using national and international funding sources supporting the scientific development of doctoral students, including programmes of the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange (e.g. Bekker, Walczak, SPINAKER) and the National Science Centre (PRELUDIUM BIS). Doctoral students also benefit from the Metropolitan Science Support Fund — between 2023 and 2025, funding was awarded to 32 young researchers.
