Internationalisation of the Doctoral School of the Medical University of Silesia, Katowice, Poland
The Doctoral School of the Medical University of Silesia, Katowice, Poland received funding under the Metropolitan Science Support Fund for the project “Internationalisation of doctoral education at the Doctoral School of the Medical University of Silesia as an element strengthening the scientific potential of the GZM Metropolis.” As part of the project, Prof. Martin Meuli — an internationally recognised scientist and expert in paediatric and fetal surgery affiliated with the University of Zurich and the University Children's Hospital Zurich — will conduct educational classes for all doctoral students of the Doctoral School, as well as open activities addressed to the academic community of the GZM Metropolis.
An important component of internationalisation is the regular involvement of foreign scientists in the educational process, including lectures and seminars delivered by experts from renowned institutions such as:
Initiatives such as “Scientific Inspirations – A Day with Fulbright”, involving researchers from the University of California San Diego, are also organised. These activities provide doctoral students with access to international knowledge and standards without the need to travel abroad.
The Doctoral School is actively developing systemic initiatives supporting internationalisation, including the Doctoral School Ambassadors Programme (2024), integration and information events for the international community, and support services for foreigners through the Welcome Center established under the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange “Welcome to Poland” programme.
The Doctoral School educates international doctoral students, while communication, documentation, and administrative tools operate in both Polish and English.
